One of the citizens’ gravest concerns is the traffic issues that are likely to result from the proposed mine.

Sudduth Law PLLC – Aug 24, 2023

Recently, we received a letter from Sudduth Law PLLC, voicing the concerns of our neighbors regarding road safety along the busy and treacherous stretch of Highway 191. This highway is a lifeline for residents, but its heavy traffic makes entering and exiting a perilous endeavor. Community discussions have revolved around proposals like reducing the speed limit and installing a traffic light to improve safety. We share these concerns with our neighbors. However, the letter from Sudduth Law PLLC makes assumptions that overlook key aspects of our project with TMC Inc.

Contrary to the fears outlined, our collaborative investigations with TMC Inc. reveal a different narrative. The proximity of the gravel pit to its final destination means fewer trucks are needed on the highway, effectively reducing traffic and carbon emissions from trucks that currently drive from Belgrade through the Gallatin Gateway Community Center. This is a crucial point that weakens the claim of increased road congestion due to our gravel pit.

Moreover, TMC Inc.’s commitment to enhancing Highway 191’s infrastructure is a significant step towards safer travel. The introduction of a new acceleration lane and a turning lane is a strategic investment, designed to facilitate smoother merging and alleviate the dangers of entering and exiting the highway. The implementation of a lower speed limit for gravel trucks not only ensures safer operations but also sets a precedent for slower, more cautious driving along the highway. TMC Inc. boasts an exemplary record in road safety, suggesting that their thoughtful approach could indeed create the necessary gaps for safer highway access for local residents and wildlife.

The accusations and apprehensions expressed by our critics appear to be based more on conjecture than on concrete evidence or thorough understanding of the project’s implications. The steps we are taking with TMC Inc. are grounded in careful planning and a commitment to community safety, challenging the baseless speculations put forth by our accusers. The integration of trucks decelerating and accelerating on this section of Highway 191 could very well create necessary gaps in traffic, significantly enhancing the safety for nearby residents entering and exiting and wildlife crossing this crucial roadway. In this light, our efforts represent not just a response to community concerns but a proactive approach to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all who share this vital thoroughfare.
